THE STORY – HOW YOU MET AND THE PROPOSAL
Dave and Leah were introduced by a mutual friend in 2011 at a theater in WV (they were both actors) and immediately started “flirting” over months playing “Words With Friends”. Leah lived in NYC at the time and Dave lived in Philly. They made a bet that whoever lost their first game had to buy the other person cookies the next time they saw each other. Dave won and surprisingly received a package from Leah a few days later with a handful of cookies and a hilarious note scribbled on a napkin. Their relationship continued to grow with more Words With Friends (Dave eventually lost and sent Leah cookies with a note written on toilet paper), homemade crossword puzzles full of inside jokes, lots of texts and Hey Tells, and eventually phone calls. The Proposal: Dave came up to NYC for the weekend to celebrate Leah’s birthday. He had been giving her gifts all day and brought a bag with several more with him on their way to the dinner he had set up. On the way, they decided to stop at Washington Square Park where he had Leah open a few more presents. The first present was a Words With Friends board game and the second was a Scrabble dictionary book. Leah opened the board game and Dave had glued “Leah Monzillo, I love you, will you marry me?” on the board game. He then opened the book and had carved a place for the ring to sit so the book acted as a ring box. He got on his knee and told Leah the reasons he wanted to marry her and Leah couldn’t resist.
THE WEDDING – WEDDING THEME + OVERAL VISION
We wanted our wedding to reflect us, so it was only fitting that our wedding included some creative touches as we told “Our Story.” Our wedding was held at the beautiful Riverside Ballroom at The Inn at Lambertville Station, NJ, where our closest friends and family were greeted at their tables with DIY books, each narrating a chapter of our relationship, and table games. We entered the ballroom the first time as man and wife with our bridal party holding giant “Words With Friends” letters spelling out “Their Next Chapter Begins.” This of course after Dave surprised me at the end of our ceremony by organizing the bridal party (who are mostly all performers/musicians) to sing “All You Need Is Love” complete with a family instrumental section in the audience and one of our groomsman wailing on an electric guitar.
MOST MEMORABLE – FAVORITE MOMENTS + FAMILY TRADITIONS
Another unique part of our wedding was the way we tied our family’s heritages into the day. Dave is Polish and I am Italian, both with strong family traditions and cultural roots. We got everyone on the dance floor to dance a few polkas and dedicated a waltz to his grandparents, who were celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary that weekend! My favorite memory was towards the end of the night; my entire extended family made a surprise entrance in hand-made polka dotted t-shirts while the DJ played “Roll Out The Barrel.” It was a touching way of tying both our families together which definitely added a special memory to an already special night. We could not have asked for a more perfect night and are loving life as we make memories in the next chapter of our story!
