We’ve got this gorgeous Cape Charles wedding up on our blog this week. We love the touches of southern elegance and amazing floral details. Such great inspiration just in time for spring!
Bride + Groom: Meredith Anne Bundy +Charles Alfred Huffman, V (“Chase”)
Wedding Date: May 10, 2014
Wedding Venue: Bonderosa Farm, Cape Charles, Virginia
French-Country. Chandeliers. Soft, elegant, romantic, magical…..like a movie. I love pinks, soft greens, and pearl tones. My favorite flowers are Ranunculus- soft flowers with whorls of delicate petals. I also love Peonies and Hydrangeas. I like large, visually stimulating arrangements and designs, and I wanted our wedding guests to have surprises throughout the night—to not be bored with any part of the wedding…to never want to leave! I wanted to transform the farm setting to a french-country setting with draped pearls, sparkling stones, and hanging Chandeliers. We had 3 arbors constructed- one that we would be married under, and the other two to be placed under the tent. The arbors were draped and wrapped with vines, and from the middle of each hung a large chandelier with lights that glimmered through the crystal. The arbor that we were married under was set in the field overlooking Plantation Creek. Large urns adorned each side with celebration roses, hydrangeas, ranunculus, peonies, and beautiful green foliage. The aisle was flooded with pale pink rose petals.
The centerpieces consisted of large candelabras with draped pearls and various gorgeous flower arrangements.
We incorporated a decorative scroll design throughout our wedding. Our wedding invitation was nothing short of fancy-a tri-fold pearl colored large invitation with pale pink accents with a pale pink belly band embossed with a black scroll with the letter ‘B.’ The calligrapher for the wedding invitations used large elegant curls and beautiful embellished letters.
Roy Revels, an artist and native of Ocracoke Island, NC, constructed massive strands of lights to mimic the chandeliers hanging in the tent (also there was a chandelier over the black and white check dance floor) and strung them in the trees that lined the creek (just beyond the tent). If you looked from the pool, you could see through the beautiful tent, through the arbors and to the background of strands of lights hanging in the trees…It was magical.
The ceremony was intimate; relaxed, and nothing short of my dream come true. A girl always dreams of the day her dad will walk her down the aisle, and I wanted that moment to last forever! I wore an ivory Martina Liana wedding dress with vintage-inspired Alencon lace overlay with scalloped lace trim and covered buttons. A local dressmaker, Toula Manouilidis added over 1,000 hand embellished beads and pearls. My cathedral veil from Brussels (my great-grandmothers) was perfect with the dress. After the ceremony the dress displayed a double tier french bustle. I walked down the aisle to Canon in D. We had a violinist and guitarist for the ceremony music.
FAVORITE + SPECIAL MOMENTS
We actually had a scattered rainstorm that decided to show up right before our ceremony. Knowing that this was the risk you take with an outdoor wedding, I remained as calm as possible and told myself that “it will pass, it will pass, and Meredith; its going to be ok.” Our family and friends graciously waited under the tent for it to pass while enjoying mojitos and each others company….and it did pass. I was thanking GOD! We moved the ceremony to 6 PM rather than5:30 and ended up having a standing ceremony; which now I look back on and think “why on earth don’t more people do this?” It made the moment more personal…the ceremony was full of pure love, laughter, tears, and happiness…even with some pre-wedding raindrops:)
One of the funniest moments for everyone was when my parent’s overweight boston terrier, George, came trotting down the aisle during the ceremony; sporting a coral bow that matched the bridesmaids dresses, and proceeded to tinkle on a tree behind our arbor as we were exchanging rings. Everyone laughed as well as Chase and I.
My father; after walking me down the aisle, upon releasing me to Chase; gave Chase a big kiss on the cheek. It was unexpected and quite adorable.
When our officiant, Ben Weast, began asking, “do you, Chase, take Meredith….” Chase didn’t wait to be prompted, but instead yelled “I DO!” That got a giggle from everyone as well.
As a surprise to me, there were engraved stemless wine glasses on the tables at each place setting with our engraved scroll (that was incorporated throughout the wedding) with the letter of my new last name ‘H’ on glass and below was engraved “Elle est a’ vous!” My father; during dinner, stood to give a toast to Chase and I and explained the meaning behind the french saying on the glasses. When he was leaving his own wedding reception at Oakmont Country Club, PA, he thought his father-in-law was going to hand him an envelope of money, when in actuality he was simply going in for a hand shake to say “She’s all yours!” This was the meaning of the engravings on the glasses. It was a fantastic moment, and the glasses were our gifts to the wedding guests.
Before the ceremony I presented a Hearts on Fire diamond cross necklace to my mother to thank her for all the hard work she put in to make our wedding day so special to me. She had always wanted a cross necklace but could never find the perfect one. To thank my mother-in-law Gay Huffman, and my father, I had hand embroidered handkerchiefs made with special messages for each of them. This is a hard question to answer as every minute of the entire wedding weekend was so wonderfully memorable.
